Stillpoint Submission/Piece for thefountainpen Feb. 8th, 2011 @ 10:02 pm
Just a short piece cross-posted to thefountainpen.

Title: Ride Share
Rating: PG
Genre: Fiction
Prose or Poetry: Prose
Summary: A college student takes a road trip with a curious stranger.
Author's Notes: I found this short story hidden on my hard drive the other day and decided to fix it up a bit and post it on here. It still needs work - there definitely seems to be something missing, although I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Although that's sort of the whole point of the story, so maybe that's how it ought to be...hm...Concrit would clearly be appreciated. ;)

Do you believe society will ever truly overcome racism?

"Society" is a really large and vague word, and it includes many different countries and cultures. I feel like there will always be negativity somewhere, so there will always be racism. Sadly, race distinction is a part of our psychological make-up - we are attracted of people that look like us and distrustful of those who don't. Forced diversity can lead to balkanization, language barriers, and an even greater sense of mistrust between racial groups. Does that mean that people SHOULD stick to only knowing people within their own races? Of course not! I feel like most Western countries (I can't really speak for other places, having only lived in the US) have greatly improved in their understanding of other races and culture after years and years of racism and slavery. I don't know if racism will ever be gone completely, but I do think that if we emphasize the fact that all people are people to children of a young age while continuing to learn from past mistakes, our culture as a whole will be less tolerant of racism if not eliminate it completely.

Well, hello lj! The only reason I really answered this question was because itsahit and I want to start up thefountainpen again so I wanted to let everybody know that I'd be back on lj (sort of). I don't really do fanfiction anymore, and that was the purpose of this account originally, so I don't really have that much use for it anymore. I'm going to try to use this to post some writing samples, mixes, and occasionally update you on my persona life. For the past year or so I've mostly been using my tumblr which you should go follow if you're at all interested in me anymore. Nice to see you all again... hopefully I'll stick around for awhile this time. ;)
